Bo-Peep and Black Tales tear down Bordello - Monday 3/16

Bo-Peep, Tokyo’s overadorably happy 3-piece girl rock collective makes their LA debut at Bordello on this Monday, March 16. Their fast, short, and catchy tunes will have you dancing. Deerhoof, beware. Bo-Peep’s vocals & harmonies are reminiscent of the good punk rock from the 80’s, ie. Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys, with a little bit of the Ramones and Sonic Youth thrown in just for giggles.

"It's hard to imagine the extent of this 3-piece girl band's dense, intense sound piercing the world as it does". – BOUNCE Magazine, Tower Records, Japan.

Check out this fan video of a live performance from 2007.

Alaska in Winter w/ Juliette Commagere - March 26 @ Bordello

Brandon Bethancourt, AKA Alaska in Winter, is a one man production who sings, plays piano, accordion, melodica, synthesizer, electro drums & programming. Think Daft Punk, Kraftwerk, Crystal Castles or Goldfrapp with male vocals. Since the inception of Alaska in Winter, Bethancourt has released a handful of music including “Holiday,” his 2nd full length album. Bethancourt's high school buddy Zach Condon of Beirut, contributes his trumpet and ukulele efforts, while Heather Trost from A Hawk & A Hacksaw plays the violin.

Alaska in Winter is joined by Juliette Commagere, New Villager and Dr. Rosen Rosen on Thursday, March 26 at Bordello. This will probably be the last chance to catch Ms. Commagere (whose jawdropping rendition of "Every Time You Say Goodbye" floored me a few weeks ago at Home) before she hits the road with The Bird and the Bee and then Ry Cooder.
